Zion is a gorgeous national park, full of many incredible things to do. With its towering red cliffs, stunning valleys, and diverse ecosystems, Zion offers visitors a breathtaking escape into nature. Whether you’re an avid hiker seeking thrilling trails or a nature enthusiast looking to soak in the stunning views, Zion has something for everyone. Here is my top 10 list of the best things to do in the park!
10. Zion Canyon Scenic Drive

The Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is a breathtaking route that winds through the main area of the park. The drive spans approximately 6 miles. During peak seasons, access is limited to shuttle service to manage traffic and preserve the environment. Along this route, you’ll encounter iconic landmarks such as the Great White Throne, Court of the Patriarchs, and Temple of Sinawava.
9. Court of the Patriarchs
The Court of the Patriarchs is a striking geological formation named after three towering peaks—Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—that dominate the skyline. These sandstone cliffs, named after biblical figures, offer a dramatic sight in Zion National Park. You can view the Court of the Patriarchs from the shuttle or opt to get out and walk up for a closer look, allowing you to appreciate their majestic presence up close.
8. Pa’rus Trail
The Pa’rus Trail is an easy, 3.2-mile out-and-back paved trail that spans across the valley floor. Accessible to walkers, cyclists, and pets, the hike offers scenic views of the river, towering canyon walls, and surrounding landscapes. Beginning near the visitor center, the trail provides an ideal introduction to Zion’s natural beauty, making it a great way to start exploring the park.
7. Emerald Pools Trail

The Emerald Pools Trail is a moderately challenging 3-mile out-and-back hike that takes you to 3 different pools. But, you don’t have to go to all the pools if you want to shorten the length of the hike. The best time to see the Emerald Pools is during the spring!
6. Riverside Walk

The Zion Narrows Riverside Walk is an easy 1.9-mile, out-and-back paved trail that follows alongside the Virgin River into the towering walls of Zion Canyon. This peaceful hike offers serene views of the river and surrounding canyon scenery. Its accessibility makes it a perfect alternative for those who want to experience the beauty of the Narrows without wading through the river.
5. The Watchman Trail
The Watchman Trail in Zion National Park is a moderate 3.1-mile, out-and-back hike starting near the visitor center. It offers panoramic views of the park and the Virgin River below, making it perfect for sunrise or sunset photography. This accessible trail is popular for its scenic views and is a great option for visitors seeking a rewarding hike in Zion.
4. Zion Mount-Carmel Tunnel

The Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel is a key route connecting Zion Canyon to the eastern side of the park. Completed in 1930, this 1.1-mile tunnel cuts through solid sandstone and includes several windows offering brief views of the park’s landscape. Driving through the tunnel provides access to stunning scenery, including dramatic cliffs and rock formations, making it a must-see feature of Zion National Park.
3. Angels Landing

Angels Landing is one of Zion National Park’s most iconic and thrilling hikes. This challenging 4.3-mile round trip trail takes you up a steep, narrow ridge, with chains to help you up the final stretch of the ascent. The breathtaking views from the summit, which overlooks Zion Canyon, are well worth the effort. You do need to apply for a permit to hike Angels Landing, and the trails popularity can make them challenging to acquire. But if you can’t get a permit for the final ascent, hiking to Scout Lookout, the overlook right before the final stretch, is still a rewarding experience.
2. Canyon Overlook Trail

Zion Canyon Overlook Trail is an easy, 1-mile out-and-back hike that provides incredible views without requiring too much effort. At the end of the trail, you’ll find a stunning overlook that offers panoramic views of the canyon and its iconic rock formations. The overlook is also the perfect spot to watch the sunrise, as the early morning light casts a golden glow over the landscape, creating a truly magical experience.
1. The Narrows

Hiking The Narrows is a one-of-a-kind experience that you can only get in Zion. As you wade through the Virgin River, surrounded by towering canyon walls, you’ll be immersed in a surreal and captivating landscape. You can hike as little or as much of The Narrows as you like, making it customizable for all experience levels. However, be aware that you cannot hike The Narrows year-round. They are closed for most of the spring due to snowmelt raising the Virgin River above 150 CFS. But, if you visit Zion when The Narrows are open, it is a must-experience!
